Mental Health Consultant - African American Cultural Competency - MHASD, Early Childhood
Are you a mental health professional with knowledge and experience serving the unique needs of young children? Multnomah County Health Department invites you to apply as a Mental Health Consultant on the Early Childhood Team in the Mental Health and Addictions Services Division.
This position require Knowledge Skills and Abilities with regards to familiarity with the African American culture.
What are we looking for?
This 32 hour work week schedule based on a 10 month working schedule (approximately 42 weeks) aligned with the school year providing a range of culturally relevant, evidence based mental health services, consultation, and training to Mt Hood Community College Head Start and Child Care Resource & Referral (CCR&R). The focus of the work will be supporting African American Students and Families who may have cultural or other barriers to mental health services.
Additionally, the MHC will coordinate with community agencies, natural support systems, churches, etc. to increase awareness of and access to positive mental health development for African American children and families.These services are provided in order to achieve improvements in social/emotional/familial functioning for all children and families served by the contracted agency.
This position requires use of personal vehicle to travel to home visits and multiple sites. This recruitment may be used to fill future vacancies.
Areas of Expertise:
Advanced knowledge of Issues young children face such as separation anxiety, witnessing family violence, aggressive behavior, depression, sexual abuse, anger problems, behavior problems, attention problems, dealing with divorce, grief, etc.
It also involves a knowledge of common developmental delays, birth injuries and syndromes affecting young children.
Helping young children, parents, and Early Childhood educators learn strategies for dealing with issues listed above.
The major functions of this Mental Health Consultant are:
Provide mental health consultation to Mt. Hood Community College Head Start administration and staff
Provide mental health consultation to caregivers
Provide a range of mental health services to young children and their families
Clinical record keeping complying with all applicable legal requirements
