¡Sonrie!
by Centro Cultural
Our ¡Sonrie! Program accompanies Virginia Garcia’s expanded practice dental hygienists in visiting underserved children in schools across Washington County. This partnership enables Virginia Garcia to extend its reach to provide oral health screenings, sealants, and referrals while Centro provides culturally appropriate oral health education—hands-on workshops and recommendations for good oral hygiene, avoiding sugary beverages, and more—for underserved children. Together, we bring preventive dental services to children where they are, intervening early to support good oral health for a lifetime. The ability of vulnerable populations to access health care and receive health education that is developmentally and linguistically appropriate is essential to a thriving community.
Our adapted program models Mercy Foundation’s HKOP (Healthy Kids Outreach Program) hands-on workshops to foster immersive learning environments for youth in grades K-8 in our region. Our primary targets are schools with enrollment at or above 50% free and reduced lunch.
