Parks and Nature Outreach and Events Assistant - Temporary
Position Title: Parks and Nature Outreach and Events Assistant - Temporary
Deadline to apply: March 30, 2018 @ 5:00 PM, PDT
Salary: $25.15 hourly
Do you have what it takes to get people excited about parks, trails and natural areas? Metro is looking for an enthusiastic and skilled communicator who enjoys directly interacting with people to bring Metro's parks and nature mission to diverse communities in our region this summer.
The Parks and Nature Outreach and Events Assistant will help coordinate the logistics of events Metro is hosting, including a trails networking fair and the grand opening for a new park. This person will also plan, coordinate and host outreach booths at community festivals and events to connect people with Metro's 17,000 acres of parks, trails and natural areas. In addition to sharing information about our parks and natural areas, you will encourage people to sign up for Metro's news digest and social media accounts. If you're the right fit for this job, you should love talking to people and answering their questions – as well as creating systems and tracking details.
The right candidate must have experience interacting with, and tailoring messages and approaches to, diverse and underrepresented communities. Be ready to reach the region's passionate nature lovers, while also connecting with communities who may be experiencing Metro parks and natural areas for the first time.
As a member of the Parks and Nature Communications Team, this person will work closely with a talented group of colleagues to help us achieve our outreach goals during a busy summer season. We are a diverse team that gets a lot done and learns from one another. You will also have opportunities to work with park rangers, natural resource scientists, volunteer coordinators, nature education guides and other members of Metro's Parks and Nature Department, getting a window into many professions.
Until mid-June, the Outreach and Events Assistant will work primarily daytime, weekday hours in the office. During this time the position will focus on coordinating logistics of Metro events, booking booths for community events, and training and preparing for event season, while attending occasional events (scheduled at least two weeks in advance). Starting in mid-June, this person will generally work about three days per week in the office and two days per week at events, including evenings and weekends. The vast majority of summer events are booked months in advance, allowing the Outreach and Events Assistant significant notice to set their schedule.
At Metro we hire a workforce representative of the communities we serve, understanding that a diverse workforce strengthens our organization. We value diversity and support a positive and welcoming environment where all of our employees can thrive.
