OVERVIEW:
DIVE (Distant Immersive Virtual Experiences) 4 Agriculture (DIVE4Ag) is recruiting a Student Outreach Assistant (up to 20 hours per week during the academic year). OSU Precollege Programs and OSU Extension 4-H Program are partnering to deliver a regional scale two year education program that addresses urgent needs of students in Oregon and Washington in the aftermath of COVID-19. The overall goal is to provide immediate and immersive distant agriculture education to middle and high school students, educators, and trained volunteers. To this aim, DIVE 4 Agriculture will develop an Agriculture Distant toolkit as an open resource including virtual reality experiences in agricultural sites, online youth activities, teen agricultural science cafes, Beaver Hangouts mentoring, and a virtual interactive agricultural challenge.
DIVE4Ag is targeted towards youth from rural and underserved parts of the state. Therefore, it is important that program assistants demonstrate an understanding of and consideration for cultural, linguistic, and socioeconomic diversity.
DIVE4Ag Assistants will be in charge of the day-to-day operations. Assistants will be responsible for recruiting and scheduling Beaver Hangouts coaches, setting up virtual platforms for the delivery of Beaver Hangouts and Teen Science Cafes, and maintaining a social media presence.
DIVE4Ag Assistants will gain experience in: program management, event planning, curriculum management, and professional social media coordination. There will also be opportunities to gain targeted professional development opportunities, as appropriate and as funds are available.
Position Duties:
· Recruitment – assist with Dive4Ag Beaver Hangouts coach recruitment efforts, including, but not limited to: tabling, short classroom presentations, student organizations, Cultural Centers, Advisors, digital outreach
· Social Media – keep up all social media accounts, create and edit posts and videos
· Website – help maintain and keep the DIVE 4 Agriculture website up-to-date
· Daily setup – makes sure the curricula are ready to go for coaches, program communication and coordination with youth and educators for Beaver Hangouts and Teen Science Cafes
· Graphic Design – edit videos, write and compile stories and infographics for newsletter
· Technology help – basic troubleshooting for online video-conferencing applications (e.g. Skype, Zoom, Google Hangouts)
· Curriculum Maintenance – help make minor adjustments based on feedback
· Daily Program Upkeep – scheduling, appointment management, attendance
· Programming – assist with finding and/or delivering monthly professional development opportunities
